Before it is a personal spiritual practice or a social strategy for cultural transformation, non-violence is an integral part of the mutual reverence and dynamism of the economy of love within the Trinity (the beloved community). Jesus is the nonviolent love of God for all put into human form. And Jesus’ resurrection after being violently beaten, mocked, and tortured to death is the hopeful sign for Christians of the nonviolent power of God’s reign. So, in intentional acts both great and small, where we choose to treat ourselves, others, situations, non-human others, and the earth in nonviolent ways, we practice resurrection.
