Christians would do well to stop blaming the big, bad secular culture for the bastardization of Christmas and to retire the accusatory, catchy slogans. Instead, we are heralded, as we always have been heralded, to prepare the inn of our hearts and the stables of our lives where Christ can be born again and again and again in this place and in this time. Perhaps in so doing, we will encourage one another to incarnate in thought, word, and deed the incarnation of divine love — which just may be the real and most urgent reason for the season.
