Praise is joy aimed at God.
But when the heart breaks,
when everything we taste is bitter as lemon pith,
when all we have to offer the Holy One
is vulnerability, fragility, regret,
the poverty of our sorrow or grief,
worry or fear, weariness or struggle,
I suspect that’s a kind of praise as well
and is received as such.

I always enjoy reading your words, Dan. Today’s words about praise and what I have to offer are pure gift for me. I have a faith filled niece who is going through times of great worry and struggle, and I’ve shared it with her. She, too is grateful. Many thanks!
Thank you, Barbara.
interesting if you read the word ‘well’ as the noun it offers a depth idea to the resource to hold the joy. thanks.
