“Sister Mahala, Brother Weeps says that to become human and holy we must endure many trials, experience much suffering, undergo failures and unravelings, even humiliations,” said a young man.
“That’s true,” said Sister Mahala, “many stumbles, tumbles, and falls.’
“Can you show us another way?” asked the man.
“To start a fire you first strike steel against a piece of flint to make a spark and a pearl can only become a pearl by friction as well,” said Sister Mahala. “And there’s the rub.”
