It is in our consenting to be moved, our conscious awareness of collaborating with the present moment, and in both our duty and daring to respond lest we betray our own humanity that the mystic and the prophet meet, the one characteristically by giving expression through wonder and awe, the other through deep sympathy and compassion not only for other humans and the plethora of life forms on this resplendent earth, but also for God—the Author of Beauty — from whom all life flows, and consequently, who must weep at how we demean, desecrate, and destroy.
